book and box
Cost: $350 - plus materials fee at class
Class #001VABC1-01
Mon. - Fri., 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., room V2014

In this course you will create a custom collection of natural curiosities. Using an assemblage of historic illustrations, found objects, and natural artifacts we will create a visual narrative in a hand-sewn book with the option to create a dos-a-dos (a French term meaning "back-to-back") book structure. Whether you prefer an aesthetic of tattered and aged or pristine and scientific, this class will explore a variety of techniques to weave your collected materials into a one-of-a-kind nature study book. You will build and decorate a matchbox drawer structure to house their book, with extra compartments for found and collected artifacts.
Prior bookbinding or boxmaking experience is helpful but not required for this class.
