The sculptural artist books in this series "Specimen Series:metamorphosis" were inspired by the writing and images of Maria Sybilla Merian. They are explorations on the idea of curiosity cabinets and shadow boxes utilizing natural findings in a miniature environment. The intention of the scale is to focus the viewers attention to the delicacy and fragility of the natural specimens and collections. The collections of specimens included in the artist books are both scientific and created. The handmade papers used is from exotic fibers such as bird of paradise, raw coconut, tulip stems, hyacinth bulbs, milkweed and other plants. This series of sculptural books double as both a book when closed and a shadow box when open.
