Portfolio Boxmaking for Printmakers
Held at Kala Printmaking Institute
May 1 & 2nd 2010
www.kala.org

This is a hands on class for students to learn about the craft of boxmaking and to make an essential structure used to protect books or prints: the dropspine/clamshell box. Using archival bookcloth, boards and papers, students will learn the bench skills and careful use of tools required to produce precise, neat work in boxmaking. All materials are precut, but students will be given instructions and formulas which they can adapt later for the dropspine box size to change according to the prints they wish to store or house. Students will learn the types of boxes used most commonly for storing, selling and exhibiting prints and handle examples of many different types. Enrollment is limited to 6 students.
