Intrigued by the charming art of box making? This workshop will teach you how to make three of the basic structures used to protect books or prints: the portfolio, slipcase, and clamshell box. Using bookcloth, book board, and decorative papers, you will learn basic bench skills and techniques. The most challenging aspects of box making are the measurements and formulas; this workshop will focus on those challenges by making them accessible through discussion and implementation. We will cover the intricacies of using formulas and applying measurements, cutting methods (by hand and studio machines), resources for materials, building tips and possible box variations. Prerequisite: Bookbinding I.
