Letterpress Artist Book and Eco-printed Covers with Enclosure
Inspired by four women naturalists of the 1900’s, this eco-printed swing panel accordion binding was produced with the support of San Francisco Center for the Book Imprint Project through a residency in 2019. Printed in an edition of 100, there are 20 copies for the artist. The book features an eco-printed cover and letterpress printed 2-sided interior. The Swing panel accordion binding is laser cut on each main panel and allows the book to move within the frame of the book, like a pop-up. The artwork on the backside is letterpress printed in 6 colors, the front side is printing in 1 color.
The four women featured in the narrative are: Eleanor Anne Ormerod, Olga Fedchenko, Clara Eaton Cummings, and Florence Augusta Merriam Bailey. The front side of the swing-panel accordion gives a brief poetic biography of the women and their field of expertise. The back panels of each woman’s biography is a layered letterpress print with silhouette imagery of the species the women researched and published work relating to.
Standard edition features brewers spelt gran GMUND paper enclosure, letterpress printed, and enclosed with a clear velcro.
Custom edition copies feature eco-printed covers on watercolor paper, letterpress printed, with a clear velco closure.
