Artist Books are a wonderfully diverse genre and my work is much the same. I'm fascinated by structures and boxes, both traditional and invented. Most of the books included here have some unique sculptural or spacial element to them.

Ebru Marbling is the art of creating colorful patterns by sprinkling and brushing color pigments on specially formulated water and then transforming this pattern to paper. In this one day course students will learn what makes turkish Ebru distinct, and all the fundamentals to create authentic marbled sheets.  Beginning with the raw materials and where to source them, we’ll progress through creating specific tools and making pigments based paints. The techniques of laying down classic patterns and the practice of creating them will allow students to leave with a good understanding with a foundation to build on. This fundamental marbling workshop is part of a series offered at 1890 Bryant, with additional classes offered this fall and winter.

Materials Fee:
All the needed materials will be provided for this class

Students should wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty, and bring a notebook and pencil for taking notes. There will be materials for students to take home for marbling, please bring a large bag or tote to carry them with.

Momo Moore-Racine plunged into the world of water and paints in her very early teens with Mme Simon in Haiti. After a long hiatus, Momo traveled to Turkey to study traditional Ebru, and her love for pattern, color and paper resurfaced. For the past 8 years, she has been making her marbled papers in Oakland, CA. Her own papers are based on traditional Ebru, but utilize color palettes and over-marbling techniques that are more uniquely untraditional.
