Workshop Description:

This beginner’s course showcases an individual’s visual collection of natural curiosities. The miniature specimen structure will include a hardcover book with a decorative frame and inset panel measuring 3 x 4.5 x ½” in size. Using an assemblage of historical illustrations, found objects, altered book components, and natural artifacts, participants will explore ways to incorporate found or handmade materials and written content. Bookmaking, collage techniques, and methods for including text and miniature books will be covered. As a component of this course, we play with using narrative themes in our work, as well as methods for including text and miniature books within the framework.
