Workshop Description:
This book's structure emphasizes the intersection of traditional and invention bindings. Wooden boards are finished with layers of historical milk paint, resulting in richly textured and distressed surfaces. The leather sewing supports echo historical bindings while offering an artistic variation that makes each book truly one-of-a-kind. Through this blend of surface, structure, and color, students will discover how tomerge historical techniques with contemporary expression. The structure has many applications which can give students ideas and inspiration about how to take this book to the next level in their artist book practice.

Now in our 29th year! NPBAF celebrates papermaking and manipulation, surface design, book arts, collage, nature printing, mixed media, and more. Our 2026 festival will take place in Newport, Oregon and the surrounding communities.
